We absolutely love our vendors at the Thompson’s Station Farmers Market, and we love sharing their stories with you! You could say we’re their biggest fans 🤗 This week we’re shining the spotlight on one of our brand new vendors, Our Farm on Mount Olivet! You’ve probably seen Larry at their booth surrounded by stunning vegetables and greens. Here’s a little more insight about Larry and the farm!
Our Farm on Mount Olivet is located just outside of Columbia off Bear Creek Pike by Cox Middle School. It produces natural baby vegetables, greens and herbs all year, such as various lettuce and greens mixes, wild arugula, baby spinach, head lettuce, baby carrots, salad turnips, radishes, beets, onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, summer squash and zucchini! They also grow herbs including flat parsley, cilantro, dill and basil.
The farm is a high density, highly managed market garden with year-round production. Larry is a lifelong gardener and became a full time market gardener in 2017 after a long career in IT. He grows on 30” beds using mostly manual tools and sophisticated management techniques. He applies compost, natural fertilizers and minerals to feed the soil which then feeds the plants and uses natural pesticides only when necessary, never using chemical fertilizers or artificial pesticides. Larry is constantly planting new rows throughout the season!
Make sure you stop by Our Farm at Mount Olivet’s booth this week at the market to say hello to Larry and check out all of his beautiful produce! He’d love to tell you more about his farm and his story. You can also follow along on Facebook. We will see you Wednesday from 4-7pm!
